SlurryTube

A straightforward & economical alternative to mechanical processing.

Mining & mineral processing can be complicated

due to remote locations, tough climates, shifting mine conditions, and constantly changing environmental regulations. These factors bring unique challenges that demand innovative dewatering solutions for mining and managing waste streams without disrupting operations. SlurryTube™ dewatering technology offers a straightforward and economical alternative to mechanical processing. This system allows you to recover valuable metals and handle mine tailings, coal sludge, and other waste byproducts efficiently and in an environmentally responsible way.

Here’s how it works:

Environmentally safe polymers are added to the waste stream to bind solids and release water.

The treated slurry is then pumped into the SlurryTube™ container, where solids and liquids separate. As water drains from the specially engineered geosynthetic material, more than 99% of solids are captured. The drained water is typically clean enough to reuse in mining processes, making this method both economical and sustainable.

The remaining dewatered solids inside the tube can be landfilled, stored on-site, or repurposed for construction projects like dams, dikes, or levees. This process can reduce waste volume by up to 90%.

This proven technology suits a variety of needs, such as mining and mineral processing, pond and lagoon maintenance, tailings management, water resource management, beneficial reuse, precious metals recovery, emergency response, acid mine drainage treatment, and specialty underground dewatering. SlurryTubes™ are also simple to install and remove after use, and can be tailored to fit your operation’s space requirements.

Before considering traditional and costly waste disposal methods, take a closer look at SlurryTube™ containers—they could make a significant difference for your business.

SlurryTube

Durable dewatering bags made from permeable geotextile fabrics, specifically designed for use with material transported by water

SlurryTubes™: Advanced Dewatering Solutions

SlurryTubes™ are large, durable dewatering bags made from permeable geotextile fabrics, specifically designed for use with material transported by water. Adding polymers can further improve the dewatering efficiency of these tubes. They offer a fast, economical, and environmentally conscious method for sediment removal. Manufactured from high-strength woven fabrics, SlurryTubes™ are built to strict standards and can be tailored in size and design to suit different projects. One major advantage of SlurryTube™ dewatering is that it often allows clean water to be returned to its original source. Overall, using SlurryTubes™ for sediment dewatering is both budget-friendly and kind to the environment when compared to alternative approaches.

Types of Materials Dewatered by SlurryTubes™

SlurryTubes™ are engineered to effectively dewater a variety of challenging materials found in multiple industries and applications. The following are the main categories of materials that can be processed using SlurryTubes™:

Municipal Water and Wastewater Sludge

These tubes are suitable for handling sludge generated from municipal water and wastewater treatment processes, allowing for efficient separation of solids and water.

Contaminated Dredged Materials

SlurryTubes™ can manage dredged materials that are contaminated, supporting remediation efforts and safe disposal.

Marine Dredgings

They are effective for dewatering sediments from lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams that are hydraulically dredged.

Agricultural Animal Waste

SlurryTubes™ provide a solution for dewatering liquid and semi-solid animal waste from agricultural operations, helping to reduce volume and facilitate handling.

Fine Inorganic Industrial Sludge

They can efficiently process fine, inorganic sludge produced in various industrial settings.

Construction Dewatering Water

During construction projects, SlurryTubes™ are used to separate solids from water pumped out of excavation sites and foundations.

Shale Fracking Wastewater

They are also applicable for dewatering wastewater generated during shale gas hydraulic fracturing operations.

Advantages of SlurryTubes™

Compared to traditional methods such as sludge lagoons, wet hauling, sand drying beds, centrifuges, presses, and other mechanical techniques, SlurryTubes™ offer substantial cost savings and are environmentally conscious. In many cases, the filtered water can be reused or safely released into the environment, including into local streams, water tables, or storm drains. These tubes dewater materials faster than open pits and require less heavy equipment, resulting in a smaller operational footprint. This makes them well-suited for sites with limited space and helps optimize land usage.
SlurryTubes™ are made from robust, UV-resistant geotextiles that are engineered to withstand challenging conditions.

  • Cost-effective compared to traditional methods
  • Minimal environmental impact
  • Small operational footprint
  • Optimal land usage
  • Faster dewatering
  • Compatible with a variety of sediments, sludges, and sands
  • Constructed from high-strength, permeable geotextile
  • Durable and resistant to UV exposure

Mining Marine & Energy SlurryTubes Features

Mining Marine & Energy’s SlurryTubes™ are manufactured from durable polypropylene geotextiles that are permeable and resistant to UV light, as well as abrasion, tearing, puncturing, and flattening from filling and placement. These SlurryTubes™ are assembled to the required circumfrance using standard width fabrics, with the length determined by the total weight. Fillports are spaced evenly along the tube for efficient operations.

Applications & Manufacturing

Mining Marine & Energy produces SlurryTubes™ for a broad range of projects requiring sediment and industrial waste dewatering, such as coal ash ponds, industrial sludge and sediments, mining tailings, wastewater treatment plant sludge, organic and inorganic materials, and silts and sands. The company also supports environmental construction efforts, including Superfund sites managed by the EPA and dredging contractors in need of efficient dewatering solutions.
